Earlier this year, Suwanee Magazine reached out to its readers and asked them to submit photos of their pets to be considered for “Pet of the Issue.” And while the editors of the publication knew that people would be eager to submit photos of their furry companions, they wanted to challenge their readership by not limiting it to dogs and cats; they also wanted to see nontraditional critters such as hamsters, iguanas, turtles, ferrets, fish, guinea pigs, horses, goats, and other unique pets.
Suwanee Magazine tasked the VDG designers with coming up with a logo for Pet of the Issue that wouldn’t pigeonhole them into canine or feline submissions, but open it up to more unconventional animals. So for this logo design we wanted to highlight the fact that any pet can be Pet of the Issue. To get this point across to the viewer, we incorporated an array of pet images. We opted for a more geometric design in order to keep the overall feel simple, yet modern. In the end, we feel the design was successful for not only the print magazine, but also across its social media channels.
