Effective trade show marketing can be tricky, but is a challenge we will embrace anytime. In an environment where people are inundated with noise, literally and figuratively, the need to stand out becomes especially critical.

DDM Systems is a startup company in Atlanta, specializing in disruptive additive manufacturing. To put it more simply, they are creating a patented, revolutionary platform for 3D printing. This means, our artwork really had to pop! We choose textures and design elements that conveyed a 3D effect and demonstrated the high-quality of their services. With such an innovative message, we purposefully kept the overall layout clean and simple – allowing the message and artwork to do all the talking.

This past year we have designed several presentations for the City of Salisbury, Maryland. They came to us with a goal of enhancing the look and feel of their marketing materials, while creating a sense of community through their marketing materials.

Annual financial reports are often lengthy and can seem stale to most readers. But, they often contain pertinent information that many citizens would like to know. Understanding this, the City of Salisbury gave us the task of making the document something that their community members could feel good about and relate to, and something that the City would be proud of publishing. Consistency and integrity are two of the most important qualities your brand can have. We design with that at the forefront of our minds.

Being named “Beer of the Month” by T.MAC Restaurants in Georgia is a lot like pledging as an enthusiastic freshman: intimidating, exciting and bearing a lot of expectations.

T.MAC is known as the go-to restaurant to try new, local craft beer. So, when our client, Jekyll Brewing in Alpharetta Georgia, was named ‘Beer of the Month’ earlier this year, we knew it was their time to shine. The marketing collateral for this campaign included: posters, tasting cards, social media posts and digital banner ads. Across the board, it was our goal to ensure that T.MAC’s diehard craft beer enthusiasts understood what Jekyll is all about. Our designs spoke to this Southern-inspired, local beer whose style is just a little bit rustic, and laced with a lot of charm.

The Reader’s Choice Awards include several different categories from food, pets, to Gwinnett life. Held in March each year, The Suwanee Beer Fest includes over 300 different craft beers for tasting and about 5,000 attendees. Quickly becoming known as one of the best and largest craft beer festivals in the Southeast, the 5th Annual Suwanee Beer Fest will be held on March 14th, 2015 in Suwanee Town Center Park. VDG is proud to design the City of Suwanee’s monthly newsletter “Connects” which recently won two national awards of excellence in graphic design and printed publications.

“The City of Suwanee has recently received awards or recognition from a variety of state, national, and international organizations. The City’s Connects community newsletter and 2013 annual report have been recognized. The newsletter won two Awards of Excellence earlier this month, in the printed publications-external publications and graphic design-publications categories, from the City-County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA). Connects is written by City of Suwanee staff and designed by the Veugeler Design Group in Buford.

3CMA judges in the graphic design category commented: “Lively, engaging, and a big step up from the previous newsletter. Strategic use of color adds personality and interest within budget constraints.”

Earlier this summer, the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report received Excellence in Financial Reporting recognition and its annual report earned a Popular Annual Financial Reporting award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This was the third consecutive year that the City’s annual report earned such recognition, but it is the first time that the publication received a grade of A from the panel of judges.

The GFOA reports states: “The reviewers commented very favorably that the City has done an outstanding job in producing a visually appealing report…. The front cover is one of the most innovative seen by the reviewers. The formatting is outstanding.”

The 2013 annual report was written and designed by City of Suwanee staff.

One of the City’s annual events, Woofstock, co-sponsored with Star 94 radio, received a Georgia Downtown Conference Award of Excellence in August. The City was recognized in the promotions category with a silver award.

Finally, the City of Suwanee has been recognized for its performance management efforts with a Certificate of Distinction from the International City/County Management Association’s (ICMA) Center for Performance Analytics. Suwanee is among 11 jurisdictions nationwide to receive the Certificate of Distinction and one of 49 (and one of two in Georgia; Decatur being the other) recognized overall.

“Jurisdictions meeting the qualifications have demonstrated leadership in continuous improvement and community engagement,” says Randall Reid, ICMA director of performance initiatives, “and they serve as examples for other governments to follow.”

Criteria for the Certificate of Distinction include reporting performance data to the public through budgets and newsletters; use of performance data in strategic planning and operational decision-making; data verification efforts to ensure reliability; staff training; and sharing performance measurement knowledge with other local governments.”

As a sponsor of the City of Suwanee’s largest event, VDG had the opportunity to participate in the Suwanee Fest parade and host a booth at the event.

On the weekend of September 20th – 21st, 2014, our staff had so much fun bringing their children, families and friends to participate in the parade. As producers and publishers of Suwanee Magazine, we knew by decking out in the magazine’s branded colors: lime green & orange, and bringing the mascot, Sammy the Frog, that we would be a big hit.

And, Sammy the Frog did not disappoint. We will keep it a mystery who is behind that happy frog suit. But, whoever it was…made thousands of kids smile that day
as he waved, danced, passed out candy and gave high-fives.

One of our newest clients, DraftServ Technologies, is making huge strides in the beverage industry with their mobile beer and wine dispensing units.

We had the unique opportunity to design a branded a Sweetwater Brewery unit for their festival debut at Atlanta’s 2014 Music Midtown.

It has been quite the adventure to work with DraftServ, they are one of the fastest growing technologies we have witnessed in awhile.

When they asked for a “craft beer culture, irreverent of sorts, industrial-looking design” for this Sweetwater unit, we knew exactly what they had in mind. And, thousands of festival attendees had the opportunity to pour their own beer with this machine at Music Midtown in September 2014.

With mobile units already at major NFL, NHL and MLB stadiums across the country, as well as international cruise lines, restaurants and venues around the world, DraftServ is well on their way to redefining what the beverage industry as a whole looks like.

We have had the opportunity to focus on building their brand, by creating a cohesive, consistent and recognizable “look & feel” for them. This is merely the beginning for DraftServ Technologies and we’re excited about where this partnership will lead.
